Presidents Corner January – March 2012

Greetings Fellow KSRA Members!
Happy New Year! I hope everyone is staying warm this winter and has enjoyed lots of time with family and friends through the wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. This past year sure flew by. The older I get the quicker the years seem to go!
Entering into 2012 we have important work to do. I believe the political elections this year will be a turning point for this country one way or the other. This election cycle may be the most important in the history of our nation. We have a lot of work to do to seat candidates that have not forgotten that we are a great nation and that the constitution is our guide. We must turn things around now before it is too late. President James Buchanan said, "The ballot box is the surest arbiter of disputes among free men."
Our Founding Fathers left us with a Free Republic and all the protections from tyranny and unnecessary intrusion by the government that we needed. Let us all be thankful to them for that measure which cost them so much. I encourage each of you to do your part to see to it that we don’t lose that which they shed their blood for.
As always, the KSRA welcomes anyone who wishes to get involved in our mission to protect the Second Amendment. The PAC particularly is in need of your donations. Every dollar counts! Please help us in our efforts to elect Pro Second Amendment legislators in Kansas. Our influence is only as strong as the donations we receive.
The job at hand for the KSRA is to protect the Second Amendment and nothing else. We know that many of our members are not single issue voters. Neither am I, or the board members. But we have to stay focused on our mission and let other organizations lead the way where other issues are concerned. Talk about a tough road to walk! But walk it we will.
I think every citizen should decide what their principles are and stand by them. I also think we should all be open to thoughtful and respectful dialogue when we have a difference of opinion. Thank heavens for the First Amendment as well as the Second, because it entitles us to speak our minds. Were it not for the First, this newsletter could not exist. Were it not for the Second, the First could not exist.
In closing I’ll ask you to ponder the words of John Adams in his letter to Benjamin Rush on April 18, 1808; "Our obligations to our country never cease but with our lives." Please engage the system, be involved and stay vigilant. Have courage, make sacrifices, and get involved in the business of your state and your country. Our very freedom could be at stake.
Yours In Freedom,
Patricia A. Stoneking
President
